And the Winners Are...
The Cardinal Center Duck Race was held Saturday, July 28th and it was another terrific success!
The cloudy morning cleared and the sun shone down on more than 200 hundred people who joined us at Center Lake as we prepared to drop 8000 yellow rubber duckies into the water. Families, employees and many Cardinal consumers enjoyed the music from our WRSW live remote, and lots of fun and games before the “duck drop” at noon. Most popular was the dunk tank, which the Warsaw Fire Department came out early in the morning to fill for us.
When noon arrived, the crowd gathered at the edge of the water. In one loud voice, they joined Cardinal VP Randy Hall in the big countdown, and on “1” the dump truck began to rise and all 8000 ducks began moving ever so slowly. The excitement built as the ducks went higher and we waited for the first few to fall. Then, at its apex, the truck’s tailgate dropped and in one huge mass, the ducks splashed into the water!
A nice ripple moved them quickly at first, but as they slowed, a little wake was called for. Roger Bair gladly did a donut in his fishing boat and the ducks were off again! Soon, the winners were floating into the tube, 1st place, 2nd place, 3rd . . . .
And the winners are . . . Tish and Scott Woods’ duck finished first and they are the $5000 winners of our 3rd Duck Race!
2nd place winner . . . Dustin Miller won 4 tickets to the Notre Dame / Air Force game in November.
3rd place winner . . . Michael Kubacki won a gas grill from Lowe’s.
4th place winner . . . Bill Cook won the Ramada/Wagon Wheel Theatre package that includes tickets for two to a show, dinner, an overnight stay and breakfast.
Congratulations to all our winners! Of course, the real winners of the race are Cardinal Center and the people we serve. Our sincere thanks to each person who bought a duck and in so doing, supported our mission to serve people with disabilities and other needs. A duck race is a fun way to raise funds, but we always remember . . . .
It’s not about ducks – it’s about people.
