MORE FROM THE SOUP KITCHEN - A VERY SPECIAL FRIENDSHIP
Bill has a very warm and caring heart, reflected in his work helping others in our community. Perhaps it shows most in his relationship with one particular little girl. Madison and her family have been visiting with Bill at the First United Methodist Church's community kitchen in Warsaw, one of the places where Bill sometimes volunteers.
As someone who has a deep love for children, it did not take long for Bill to take to bright, energetic Madison. The feeling of affection was quickly returned as the two became fast friends, sharing lunch together whenever they can. Bill finds special joy in seeing the light in someone's eyes when he is able to do something for them or give them a small gift. Recently, he decided he wanted to get young Madison something. So he and his staff went shopping with "little girl pink" in mind.
"There was so much to choose from!" says Bill. The final results was a wonderful bag of goodies that included a baby doll (wearing pink, naturally), a new outfit and back-to-school tennis shoes. MAdison was surprised by the gift at lunch one Wednesday in September, her eyes wide and sparkling and happy as she realized Bill was giving her a present "This is for you!"
Although Cardinal consumers need help in some things - they themselves are people able and eager to share their many gifts with others.
