Cardinal Center Changes Name to Cardinal Services
After being known as Cardinal Center for 28 years, we have changed our name to Cardinal Services. “The official name is Cardinal Services, Inc. of Indiana,” says CEO Jane Greene, “but for most purposes Cardinal Services, Inc. will be used.”
The reason for the new name is due to changes in the organization itself and the way our services are provided to consumers. At one time, nearly all programs were based at the center on North Bay Drive in Warsaw. However, over time the delivery of services have become more community–based to meet the needs of those served.
“Of course we still have day programs at the center, but Cardinal has not been ‘center-based’ for a very long time,” says Greene. “Our staff members work in countless different locations across a four-county area connecting people with resources and providing employment support, residential support, transportation, translation service, family and children services and helping people achieve their personal goals.”
Webster’s Dictionary defines service as “work done for others; assistance; organization whose members work for the public”, while center is defined as “a middle point, around which things form”. “As you can see, the new corporate name describes us as we are, and reflects the broader scope that is Cardinal today.”
Another exciting change unveiled by Greene and our Board of Directors Chairman John Warren, is the new Cardinal Services logo. From one perspective it is two people together, the one slightly behind the other, letting the first lead but supporting their efforts. This, according to Warren, symbolizes Cardinal’s adult services. From another perspective, the image is of an adult and child side-by-side, symbolizing the children’s services. “In both cases,” said Warren “the arms are uplifted, joyful and triumphant – and that’s what we strive toward with each person we serve.”
Cardinal Services offers residential, employment and day programs for people with developmental disabilities; WIC, Healthy Families Head Start/Early Head Start, and First Steps for families and children; services for the Hispanic community through Sus Amigos, and local transportation with the Kosciusko Area Bus Service (KABS). Last year through these programs, we served more than 4000 people in our community.
“It is our hope that the community will embrace our new name,” says Greene, “and work with us to play a part in helping just one person work toward and celebrate the accomplishment of their goals, arms uplifted and triumphant.”
