| Important Information for High School Students with Disabilities Leaving School |

If your son, daughter, or loved one is leaving high school, and was enrolled in special education services, he or she may immediately be eligible for services funded by a program called the Support Services Medicaid Waiver. Following is important information about the Support Services Medicaid Waiver, and how you can apply.
What is the Support Services Medicaid waiver? The Support Services Medicaid waiver is a program funded through Medicaid that can provide up to $13,500 a year in programs and services to people with developmental disabilities.
What services are covered? Services that may be provided include: respite care, therapies, pre-vocational services, employment supports, adult day services, behavior supports, supports to participate in the community, supports to families or an individual to live at home, family and caregiver training, and transportation.
How do you qualify? Your child must meet Indiana Medicaid’s disability and financial eligibility requirements. Your child must meet certain disability requirements required to receive Medicaid waiver services.
Where do you apply? Begin by calling your local office of the Bureau of Developmental Disability Services (BDDS). To request the phone number for the BDDS office in your area, call: 800-545-7763, ext. 2; or go to: www.arcind.org, click on “Local BDDS Offices.” When you call, say you want to apply for the Support Services Medicaid waiver for young adults leaving a high school special education program.... CCI lines up many, varied assembly jobs which allow clients in the workshop to have a job and earn a paycheck each week. Every now and then, they are happy to see the usual manufacturing job set aside for a fun, seasonal item like Christmas goodies or rubber ducks – or in this case, Easter eggs!

Representatives of The ARC of Indiana will hold a meeting Wednesday, May 30th for anyone interested in the formation of a Kosciusko County chapter of ARC.
ARC is an association of local, community organizations committed to providing supports and services to individuals with disabilities. Their focus is on helping families ensure that any person with a disability is afforded the rights, duties, responsibilities and full participation as citizens in their community.

Be careful out on the streets this weekend - it's Tootsie Roll weekend!
Each year the Knights of Columbus in Warsaw organize the annual Toostie Roll Fund Drive benefiting Cardinal Center and Special Olympics. This year's event is this Friday and Saturday, May 4th and 5th.
Starting Friday morning, more than 150 volunteers will don their trademark yellow vests and hit the streets to raise money for programs serving people with developmental disabilities.
Over the past 10 years, the effort has raised more than $185,000 for Cardinal Center programs.
This year, the Knights expect to hand out more than 27,000 Tootsie Rolls in exchange for small donations.
So, be generous when you see those volunteers this weekend - in just two days your spare change and stray dollar bills will grow to do great things!... Read More |
