Volunteer Involvement Program

Cardinal Center is committed to providing a volunteer involvement program that will meet the needs of the community volunteers, employee volunteers, and persons served as volunteers as a means of promoting Cardinal Center's Mission Statement:

The mission of Cardinal Center is to join with families and other to challenge and support both adults and children with disabilities or other needs to be active members of their community.

In order to effectively promote this mission, as well as to provide a safe environment for our volunteers and persons served, please observe the following volunteer requirements:

• Volunteers under age 18 must have written parent/guardian approval and will be accompanied by a staff member at all times.
• Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age to volunteer in Children's Programs operated by Cardinal Center.
• Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer in Residential and Day Programs.
• Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age to volunteer in Semi-independent Living Programs.

For all volunteers who intend to serve eight hours or MORE per year:

1. Volunteer Application must be completed and returned to the Cardinal Center Volunteer Manager (click Become a VIP, below, to continue through the application process).
2. Please have three personal references (must not be related to applicant) complete Volunteer Reference Forms and return them to the Cardinal Center Volunteer Manager. If preferred, your references may elect to complete this form online (click Volunteer Personal Reference for a printable PDF file, or online form).
3. A TB (Mantoux) test is required and will be provided for all volunteers at Cardinal Center's expense.
4. A Police and Motor Vehicle check will be completed (at Cardinal Center's expense) for any volunteer applicant age 18 or older.
5. A 10-panel drug test will be administered at Cardinal Center's expense.
6. Volunteer will attend General Orientation and will be provided with training in the areas related to the volunteer assignment.
7. Volunteer will adhere to all Cardinal Center policies and procedures.

For all volunteers who intend to serve LESS than eight hours per year:

1. Volunteer Application must be completed and returned to the Cardinal Center Volunteer Manager (click Become a VIP, below, to continue through the application process).
2. Please have three personal references (must not be related to applicant) complete Volunteer Reference Forms and return them to the Cardinal Center Volunteer Manager.
