VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

 

"Special Friends"

Share the gift of friendship with an individual who has a disability. This is a great opportunity for an individual, families or community groups to connect with people who have varied abilities. "Special Friends" and individuals with disabilities are matched according to their interests. This gives both parties the opportunity to have one of life's most valuable gifts -- friendship. The "Special Friends" form a lasting friendship with a person with disabilities and initiates regular activities that promote the growth and enjoyment of both.

Times are mutally agreed upon.

 


Bilingual Translators

We are looking for those who are fluent in speaking and translating between English and Spanish. If you enjoy families, this is a great opportunity to assist First Steps and Healthy Families Service Coordinators with translation during one hour home or hospital visitations.

We also require Bilingual Volunteers for the Sus Amigos Program, to assist in helping newly arrived residents, and those with limited English speaking ability, to establish connections with services in the community.

7:30 AM - 6:00 PM

Cardinal Center Duck Race Volunteer

2007 event will be Saturday, July 28th. Between Memorial Day and Race Day, many opportunities will exist to help sell Duck Adoptions at events and locations throughout the county.

Wear the "Quacky" Duck Race mascot costume for an hour, volunteer at the Fair, at one of the Central Park Concerts, or on Race Day!

Classroom Helper

Join in the fun of reading to a child, playing games, or assisting the instructor with the material preparation for the children's programs. If you love children, we have a place for you.

8:30 AM - 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM - 3:30 PM

 


Computer Support Volunteer

If you have knowledge of personal computers and wish to share your knowledge, we have a project for you. Share your knowledge while training users on Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software.

Fiscal Assistant

No need to know anything about accounting. Projects include filing, shredding and copying of various information.

Healthy Families Assistant

Join a small team whose emphasis is working with first-time families. A variety of office projects are waiting for people interested in helping.

Hispanic Services

If you are interested in helping members of Kosciusko County's Hispanic population connect with their community, then Sus Amigos may be the right fit for you. Sus Amigos is looking for inividuals to assist in the Sus Amigos Office on North Detroit Street.

Spanish language skills required.

Maintenance Volunteer

A wide variety of opportunities awaits you in the maintenance department. If you enjoy anything from sweeping and washing windows to carpentry and plumbing or anything inbetween, this is the spot for you. Our maintenance department is always looking for individuals willing to help in any way that they can.

Office Assistant

Join a fun team -- assist our office staff with a variety of office needs. From alphabetizing to copy jobs, filing and numerous other clerical projects.

Reading Tutor

Meet with Cardinal client one-on-one 1x/week to tutor reading skills. Time and place of meeting to be mutually agreed upon by client and volunteer.

Therapy Toy Cleaning

Volunteers will clean the toys used by therapists with small children. These toys help babies and children develop basic skills like the ability to grasp and focus, and hand-eye coordination.

Tootsie Roll Fund Drive (May)

Need 75-100 volunteers to stand at pre-determined intersections and storefronts around Warsaw, collecting spare change from passersby. 1 hour - 4 hour shifts available.

Spearheaded by the Sacred Heart Knights of Columbus, this is the largest Tootsie Roll Drive in the State of Indiana. In 2006, over $16,000 was raised for the Cardinal Center Community Living Program.
